I like "The American version of the Japanese film The Magnificent Seven, The Grateful Dead!" from 1969-03-01

It's clever and The Magnificent Seven is one of the greatest films ever made, so it's quite fitting. (Kurosawa is the best filmmaker of all time)

Some funny banter:
Bob saying "We'd also like to fuck, uh we'd also like to thank Mr. Phillip Lesh on the bass." from the 1986-07-07 "Satisfaction."

I also remember a show (probably late '60s or early '70s) where fans throw joints on the stage and I think Jerry says something funny.

Another one I can't remember the date for is when Phil says to someone in the audience, "How would you like to do your job in a trashcan?" I think he was getting shit from someone and kinda snapped.

the 12/28/69 pre-Mason's banter is fairly memorable, as is the show itself actually, despite the tragic cut in good lovin'

"Calling Dr. Beechwood!" - Show starts with lots of weird energy and into a great TMNS.

The one show that has a great deal, due to techno difficulties, is Harding Theatre, 11-7-71. Give that a listen if you enjoy banter. Quite a bit of chit-chat.

See the threads linked before as we've covered this many times before.

This was the thing I missed most when seeing them from 74-82: they hardly EVER spoke anymore. Big venues? Burning out? Drugs with Jerry? Dunno, but it always bugged me that they could do an entire show without EVER talking to the AUD or even each other. Seriously, I saw shows where they could've been paper cut-outs rather than real people. I know some folks just play this way, and as LiA pointed out, even in CREAM, EC often barely moved the entire show, but a little banter is good (and early CREAM has them joking with one another...not so, later on, just like the DEAD?).

The week before there is some fun banter at the Taft Auditorium show - http://www.archive.org/details/gd71-10-30.prefm.nawrocki.26608.sbeok.shnf

Jerry starts to mess with a guy who keeps calling for Truckin and who's probably dosed to the gills: “Come on, man, come on, man, you gotta be a cop? Is that it? ‘Play Truckin… Play Truckin’… We’ll play whatever we like… Of course that’s not saying you won’t like it. You might like it too. You might like it too. It might be alright. It might be something perfectly o-kay… What about all those people that might not like Truckin’?..." Not content to leave it there, Jerry pauses and insistently adds, "Well, how about it man?”

Bobby tells the people under the balcony that, “any minute now they’re going to be dropping a whole load of live chickens on you.” Then, before they finally play Truckin, we get Phil: “Okay man, this one’s for you. This is the one you’ve been waiting to hear.”

From 5/2/70... not sure if the quote is verbatim but....

Bob: "Alright, you need to start acting like a responsible, mature audience."
Jerry: (laughing) "Don't listen to him!"

I laugh so hard every time I hear that.

The joint banter is from 3/16/73, Jerry tells everyone to keep their joints, Phil says "we get high on you guys. 4/12/78 before row jimmy (my personal favorite) the guys get on the administration about turning down the house lights. A lot of funny banter on the 7/26/72 show, the band seems unusually more high than normal. Is it 6/10/90 where Phil denounces the quitting rumor then Jerry says "yeah, the rest of us are quitting?". DP 25 where Jerry tells Bob, "I'm tired of your shit asshole," after jack straw....

"or stick your head in a lions mouth" - Bobby. You're referring to DP 12 disc 3, so is that 6/28/74?

I also like it earlier in that disc when phil says "careful folks, the fire marshall is gonna put you out"

I enjoy this show from 77, cant remember the date, where bob asks everyone to make their favorite animal noise, which is followed by phil asking the crowd to make their favorite people noise.

its 1977-10-14 after candyman. Actually there is some great banter besides what I mentioned. Bobby tells everyone hes passing out a quiz, makes fun of the people asking them play songs they already did earlier. Then once they finally get their shit together jerry sparks a smoke.

"hopelessly strung out on the evil weed, tobacco".

Well worth the few minute listen. Shit this might be the best banter I know of...

Theres some banter on 4/17/72 that I thought was pretty funny. I'm not sure if it was on the SBDs circulating but its on the new Europe remasters. It's right after Next Time You See Me. Phil starts talking about his monitors not working and Bob and Jerry start messing with him then Keith starts playing the Looney Tunes theme. They all sound like there feeling pretty good
